RODNEY LLAVERÍAS
Rod Llaverías, a Dominican-American filmmaker, holds a graduate degree in Screenwriting & Directing from Columbia University. His short films have been showcased at prestigious festivals such as Rotterdam, San Sebastián, and Locarno. An alumnus of Berlinale Talents, Rodney was awarded the NewFest New Voices Filmmaker Grant in partnership with Netflix in 2022, supporting emerging LGBTQ+ filmmakers. He also participated in the Locarno Filmmakers Academy in 2023.
Rodney co-wrote the short film Darling, which won the Orizzonti Award for Best Short at the Venice International Film Festival in 2019, received a Special Mention at SXSW, and was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). He was later awarded the Katharina Otto-Bernstein Production Grant for his short film Tropicalía, an adaptation of his project La Canícula, which will mark his feature directorial debut.
